Every two (2) years, 16 clock hours of Real Estate Continuing Education is required.
· Licenses must be renewed every two (2) years on the last day of the month two years from the date in which the original license was granted.
· Eight (8) hours must be in Mandatory courses and the remaining eight (8) hours in Elective courses.
· Beginning on July 1, 2008, ALL brokers required to complete real estate continuing education must complete at a minimum 24 hours of continuing education during each 2 year licensing term. The additional 8 hours need to be in courses relating to the supervision and management of real estate agents and the management of real estate brokerage firms. The CE Shop has 2 courses which meet this requirement and are included in the BROKER renewal packages:
o Real Estate Technology: The Broker’s Guide to Success (4 hours)
o The Broker’s Guide to Understanding Real Estate and Mortgage Fraud (4 hours)
For SALES licensees who are renewing their license for the FIRST time, please refer to the Post-Licensing Course Catalogs.
Immediately upon real estate course completion, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course Certificate of Completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five (5) years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Licensees are encouraged to retain copies of their Certificates of Completion in the event that they are audited by the state. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate(s) of Completion with your renewal.
Real estate course completions are recorded with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) each business day. It may take 2-4 business days from the time we report your hours before the Commission updates your license and/or updates their website with the hours.
Please enter your individual license number correctly and fully when prompted in the registration process to ensure the reporting of your hours takes place. Virginia license numbers should be ten (10) digits and usually start with 0225.
Effective July 1, 2009, a two-hour course in Limited Service Agency is no longer a requirement to renew or activate any real estate broker or salesperson license in Virginia. The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation's “Licenses Look-Up” website has been updated to reflect this.
